Heavy monsoon rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning have been affecting most of the country, in particular eastern Nepal, over the last week, triggering several landslides, causing a number of severe weather-related incidents, particularly due to lightning, and floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.

Between 1-7 July, the Disaster Risk Reduction Portal (DRR) reports eight fatalities, of which four were due to landslides, three to lightning and one more to a heavy rainfall-related incident across eastern Nepal. DRR also reports a total of 12 injured people: five from lightning, four from heavy rainfalls and three more from landslides. A total of 48 families were affected across the area due to floods, landslides and severe weather-related incidents.

Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole country, with locally very heavy rainfall over already affected eastern Nepal.
