Cash Support in Bajhang Earthquake Response Operation
An earthquake of 5.3 magnitude hit western Nepal on 3 October 2023 at 14.40 PM and a strong aftershock measuring 6.3 magnitude occurred after an hour. Several aftershocks were experienced from that day terrifying local people. The epicenter was in Bajhang and the tremors were felt in six neighboring districts. Continuous aftershocks forced people to leave their houses and sheltered in open spaces.
NRCS in financial support of the IFRC, British Red Cross, American Red Cross, Danish Red Cross, Swiss Red Cross,
Canadian Red Cross, and UNFPA, has been implementing Earthquake Response Operation in Bajhang and Bajura districts from October 2023 to March 2024. The core areas of the Operation were for transitional shelter, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Health, Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI) and Community, Engagement and Accountability (CEA) sectors.
NRCS supported first installment cash NPR 25,000 (twenty five thousand only) to each household to construct 250 transitional shelters, NPR 15,000 (fifteen thousand only) for toilet construction and NPR 6,500 (six thousand five hundred only) to each water tank to the affected households. Likewise, NPR 15,000 (fifteen thousand only) provided to 600 fully collapsed households as a multipurpose cash grant. The support was provided via their own bank accounts.
