Kathmandu, November 3: UN Secretary General's Personal Representative, Ian Martin, and chairman of CPN (Maoist) Prachanda met Thursday to discuss arms management. Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai also joined the discussion on the preparatory works for arms management.
It is learnt that Martin expressed the UN readiness to monitor the arms, once the modalities of the arms management were fixed out by the government and the Maoists bilaterally. Dr. Bhattarai said the three also discussed the development in the ongoing peace talks.
The Maoist leadership also suggested that they have agreed for beginning arm monitoring within fifteen days after the modalities are agreed upon.
It is learnt that the UN team meeting the rebel leaders also included others members beside Martin.
On Tuesday, the Maoist leader had called on Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukharjee, to discuss ongoing peace process and the issue of managing the arms.
