Nepal: Parties agree to extend UNMIN's term

The parties in the ruling coalition have recommended the government to request the United Nations for extension of the term of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).

A meeting of the ten parties in the coalition held Wednesday in Singh Durbar decided to ask the government to take a decision on the extension of UNMIN's term at the next cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had postponed the cabinet meeting scheduled for today to discuss the issue with coalition partners.

The six-month term of the UNMIN extended for fourth time is set to expire on 23 January. The UN body is mandated for monitoring arms and army until the army integration process completes.

The parties also discussed agendas for Prime Minister's China visit beginning Saturday.
