Koshi flood victims, who had been obstructing traffic along the Bhantabari-Laukahi section of the East-West highway since past nine days have called off their strike on Saturday, a day after the government formed a high level committee for the management of the victims.
According to Pancha Narayan Mandal, chairman of Koshi Flood Victims Struggle Committee, the strike has been called off after a meeting participated by the representatives of various political parties, the flood victims and Sunsari Chief District Officer agreed to solve the problems. The high level committee also sent them a letter mentioning that their problems would be addressed within 10 days.
A cabinet meeting on Friday had decided to form a high level committee led by CA member Nandan Kumar Thapaliya to recommend suggestions for the management of Koshi flood victims.
Meanwhile, transport entrepreneurs of the Eastern region had called for a region wide strike in protest of the obstruction of traffic by the flood victims. The entrepreneurs have withdrawn their strike after the flood victims let traffic resume on the highway.
