The Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee (JMCC) meeting held today at Summit Hotel in Lalitpur again could not fix a new date to begin the second phase of verification of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The meeting concluded with the decision to hold another meeting on Monday to take a formal decision in this regard.
The committee, which comprises representatives of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), Nepali Army (NA) and Maoists decided that Monday's meeting would decide on the date for the second phase verification.
As expected, the United Nation representatives presented a draft framework on beginning the second phase of Maoist army verification in today's meeting. The draft report mainly dwells on the issue of how to jumpstart the second phase verification of the Maoist army and what is to be done with under aged (below 18) Maoist combatants living in the cantonments, among other things.
