COP 29 and Nepal’s participation : President Paudel led the high level session
The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, brought together representatives from nearly 200 countries to address pressing climate issues, with a strong focus on climate finance. Negotiations at COP29 were organized into groups, facilitating the exchange of perspectives, the formulation of agreements, and the establishment of shared agendas. High-level sessions provided a platform for heads of delegations to present their countries’ positions, priorities, and demands. While these speeches amplify national voices, the core of COP lies in the negotiations and resulting agreements. Nepal, representing the Least Developed Countries (LDC) group, emphasized that “The voice of LDCs is also of Nepal,” as highlighted by Nepali experts and government officials. Nepal prioritized its concerns at COP29, participating in high-level meetings and securing agreements for grants to support its fight against the climate crisis. Nepali experts and officials led discussions on critical themes such as climate finance, loss and damage, enhancing transparency frameworks, carbon trading, capacity building, emission reduction, and inclusiveness in climate action.
