  • Heavy rain since 26 September has caused flooding and landslides in many parts of the country, particularly in the central and western Nepal. At least 1,545 families are displaced. The number of deaths is likely to increase as reports from other parts of the country are continuing.
  • Security forces have been mobilized for ongoing search and rescue operations. The municipality, National Red Cross Society, and civil societies are responding to the affected population.
  • Landslides have blocked many highways, and the roads reaching Kathmandu, the capital city are all blocked. Due to the weather, all domestic flights from Kathmandu were disrupted till Saturday.
  • The Department of Hydrology and Metrology (DHM) has forecasted improved weather from today. The effect of the heavy rain is expected to continue for several days, disrupting the supply of goods across the country. This year, it is forecasted that above-normal rainfall across most parts of the country is primarily influenced by La Niña conditions.
