Landslides kill at least 19 in Nepal

KATHMANDU, July 31 (Reuters) - At least 19 people were killed on Thursday when landslides triggered by heavy rains struck a village in west Nepal, a government official said.

"We have recovered 19 bodies but many people are still missing,'' Home Ministry official Lekhnath Pokharel told Reuters.

Several houses were washed away when the landslides hit Manakamana village about 100 kms (60 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu, he said.

More than 100 people have died in the Himalayan kingdom since monsoon rains began in June. The monsoon continues until September.
