Govt announces relief package for flood, landslide victims as nationwide toll reaches 18

The government has announced a relief package for the flood and landslides victims across the country.

Chairman of Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi convened an emergency cabinet meeting over the issue with ministers of concerned ministries and other stakeholders related to disaster management and preperadeness on Wednesday and announced the relief/rehabilitation package.

The relief package would consist of Rs 100 million fund under the Home Ministry to provide essential materials and emergency aid to the people affected by landslides and floods caused by incessant rain across the country for the past few days.

Similarly, the government has also increased the flood and landslide relief fund under the Prime Minister to Rs 400 million from Rs 190 million, Home Minister Madav Ghimire told media-persons after the meeting.

Ghimire said that the government will leave no stones unturned to provide essential materials including relief package and medical supplies to those affected by the natural calamity.

He informed that so far 18 people have been killed and as many as 25 have gone missing in 11 flood and landslides affected districts in the country. The floods have inundated several houses leaving hundreds of families homeless. He also said that two helicopters is involved in supplying relief materials and medical supplies to Darchula, a district that has been badly hit by landslides and floods. nepalnews.com
