Encephalitis kills 4 more persons in mid-western Nepal

KATHMANDU, Sept 5, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The outbreak of encephalitis in mid-western Nepal has claimed lives of four more persons in the last 3 days, a doctor of local hospital said Monday.

The four persons have succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment at Mahendra Hospital in Dang District, some 400 km west of Kathmandu, Bimal Dhakal, a senior doctor at the hospital told reporters.

A total of 39 persons suffering from the disease have been admitted to the hospital till Sunday night, according to the doctor.

The disease has claimed 23 lives within last one month in the district.

Meanwhile, the number of people, mostly children, who died of Japanese encephalitis in the districts of Terai Belt of Nepal has reached 286 so far.
