Nov 19, 2018- At least 10 people have been infected with dengue, a mosquito-borne disease more prevalent in Tarai districts, in various wards of Dharan Sub Metropolis, Sunsari, within the last three weeks.
Authorities said the patients are receiving treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and other private hospitals in Dharan. Health officials have requested people to take necessary precaution and visit the nearest health facilities if they feel unwell.
The Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City is on a high alert to control dengue after the disease was reported in the town on November 3.
According to Ganesh Prasad Khatiwada, an official at the Social Development Section, health workers have been spraying medicines to destroy mosquito larvae in dengue affected areas.
In the running fiscal year, Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City has allocated Rs 200,000 to control dengue. Stakeholders are also involved in a door-to-door awareness campaign these days.
Dengue is an infectious disease usually contracted from mosquitoes belonging to the Aedes Aegypti genus. Its symptoms range from mild fever to incapacitating high fever, severe headache, pain in muscles and joints, and rashes on the skin.
