KATHMANDU, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Four people died of cold spell in Saptari in eastern Nepal and Bara districts on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 25 in Nepal for the past one week.
According to eKantipur.com, the latest victims died at Rajbiraj-based Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital while undergoing treatment.
Similarly, an elderly man was found dead in Bara district in central Nepal on Wednesday morning.
Police suspected that the man, who had been staying in the area as a mendicant, died due to the lack of warm clothes to protect him from cold wave.
According to an earlier report, most of the victims were the elderly and children.
Life in southern Nepal's Terai region has been hugely affected due to the persistent cold weather and dense fog.
Many districts in the region have not seen the sun for the last few days. Due to excessive cold, many schools have been closed in districts in the region.
Many Terai districts have come under the grip of cold-related diseases like pneumonia, cold, diarrhea and respiratory problems.
