Summary

The present report presents the findings and recommendations of the Special Rapporteur on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation from her country visit to the Republic of Namibia from 4 to 11 July 2011.

In the report, the Special Rapporteur begins by outlining the legal framework of the rights to water and sanitation in Namibia. She then makes a general assessment of the enjoyment of the rights to water and sanitation in the country, including in terms of water quality and pollution, sanitation and affordability. She looks at specific issues related to rural areas, informal settlements, the mining sector, inadequate regulation and budget allocations. She concludes the report with recommendations addressed to the Government of Namibia.
