Maungdaw, Arakan state: The price of beef or red meat is skyrocketing in Maungdaw since March 20, in Maungdaw Township as auction bidders were taking license with huge amount of money from government, Rashid, a local elder from Maungdaw.
“At present, one Viss (1.633kgm) of beef is being sold Kyat 8,000 to 10,000, but earlier, one Viss of meat was sold Kyat 6,000 to 7,000 in Maungdaw.”
On March 20, the concerned authority called tenders from local people, and the local people tried to get tenders by offering huge amount of money as more people joined in the bidding for tenders. For instance, for one village, one villager took license 7 to 8 million Kyat while it was only Kyat 0.7 to 0.8 million only, last year. So, the bidders high up price of beef, the village admin officer from Maung Nama village said.
As a result, the villagers of Min Galagyi village, Kyauk Hla Gaar, Kyauk Pyin Seik, Letpu Gong, Zin Bin Nya and others are facing difficulties for buying meat, a consumer Aziz said
