Participatory Web Mapping Platform for Mapping the Disasters in Myanmar
A participatory web mapping platform for mapping the disasters in Myanmar has been established on Myanmar Information Management Unit website, http://themimu.info/demo. This participatory web mapping system can collect information from various sources including UN Agencies, LNGOs, INGO, Government departments, journalist, public, etc. and the crowd will also be able to visualize the information in the form of maps almost in real-time.
Organizations or individuals can voluntarily report to the systems about the disaster happening in their areas by filling forms on the mapping web site, by sending e-mail and upload of photographs, video and news links about the incidents/disasters are also possible. Furthermore, users can also use their smart phones to report to the system. The collected information and maps will be useful for Aid agencies, Government department, public for evacuation, disaster management, humanitarian assistant and coordination.
