Myanmar: Floods Situation Report # 3, 18 June 2010

This report was issued by OCHA Myanmar. It covers the period from 17 to 18 June. The next report will be issued on or around 21 June.

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

- Flood waters have receded in the areas visited by the assessment teams

- The number of reported casualties has increased from 42 to 56, most of them due to the landslides

- The affected population has started to go back home but thousands of families have been affected by the floods at various degrees

- The Government, the UN, NGOs and local communities are all involved in relief operations.

- A boat with emergency supplies will leave Yangon on Saturday 19 June for NRS

- Assessment teams continue to be deployed

- The Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, U Maung Maung Swe,is now in NRS to lead relief efforts

- The National Disaster Preparedness Central Committee has formed a team of key ministries to carry out relief and rehabilitation tasks
