According to UN OCHA, some 25,000 people have been affected by flooding in Myanmar across Kachin, Rakhine, Kayah and southern Shan states. Kachin State is the worst-affected, with 17,500 people impacted, followed by Rakhine. 11,000 people have been displaced due to the flooding, with at least five people killed in Kachin State.
It is not yet clear how much agricultural land is affected – a recent storm in Bangladesh caused significant flooding in Sagaing and Magway areas, causing serious damage to this year’s sesame and bean crops.
DG ECHO partners are supporting those affected, including via emergency food and nutrition. Local communities are helping those affected with hot meals and clean water.
