The 7.7 magnitude earthquake followed by another measuring 6.9 took the lives of 3,800, injured 5,107 and displaced over 200,000 people. The quake caused massive losses and damage on infrastructure including health centres, schools. More than 300 aftershocks felt, ranging from magnitudes 2.8 to 7.5. Extreme heat, off-season rains and protracted conflict are compounding the difficulties for affected people, particularly for girls and women. Plan International Myanmar is working with local partners to deliver humanitarian support in ten townships of two badly quake hit regions in Mandalay and Sagaing. Plan International’s lifesaving aid has reached 26,060 people (55% female) affected by the earthquake in the regions till 27th of May. Plan International has set up an office with a dedicated team for continuing response and initiating early recovery efforts with an aim to support 35,000 people, 65% are girls and women.
