Myanmar - Earthquake (GDACS, USGS, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 19 May 2025)

  • A new earthquake of 5.2 M at a depth of 10 km occurred on 17 May at 15.54 UTC (22.24 local time) in the Mandalay region of central Myanmar. The epicentre was located about 21 km south-southwest of Kyaukse town and 55 km south of Mandalay city in the Mandalay region.
  • GDACS estimated that up to 7,100 people were exposed to very strong shaking, while 200,000 were exposed to strong shaking.
  • According to media, there were no reports of injured people or damage in the area due to this event, which was a follow-on from the 7.7 M earthquake on 28 March.
