A new earthquake of 5.2 M at a depth of 10 km occurred on 17 May at 15.54 UTC (22.24 local time) in the Mandalay region of central Myanmar. The epicentre was located about 21 km south-southwest of Kyaukse town and 55 km south of Mandalay city in the Mandalay region.
GDACS estimated that up to 7,100 people were exposed to very strong shaking, while 200,000 were exposed to strong shaking.
According to media, there were no reports of injured people or damage in the area due to this event, which was a follow-on from the 7.7 M earthquake on 28 March.
