On 28 March 2025, two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude struck central Myanmar.
Thousands of people are now residing in makeshift and overcrowded shelters that lack secure sanitation, privacy, and protection, which is increasing the risk of gender-based violence (GBV), particularly endangering adolescent girls and women with disabilities.
In response, UNFPA is urgently appealing for US$12 million to reach 680,000 people with life-saving SRH, GBV prevention and response, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services.
