The Myanmar military is conducting intense airstrikes on opposition-controlled Lashio, the biggest city in northern Shan State, near the border with China. 200,000 people have reportedly fled Lashio, out of a population of 250,000.
The humanitarian response is hindered by ongoing airstrikes, telecommunication blackouts and the fact that many humanitarian organisations had recently evacuated Lashio in response to earlier airstrikes on the city. However DG ECHO partners are assisting many internally displaced persons, including via the provision of psychological support and help for unaccompanied children.
