Local media reports that an airstrike conducted by the Myanmar military on 21 May killed three women and severely injured other. The airstrike took place in Myingyan Township of Mandalay region, an area affected by the devasting 7.7 magnitude earthquake of 28 March 2025.
Air strikes have continued against civilians across the country since the earthquake. Since 2 May, local media have reported around 58 airstrikes on civilian targets in opposition-controlled areas across Rakhine, Chin, Karen, Shan, Karenni and Mon states and Sagaing and Mandalay regions, killing at least 86 people and injuring over 200 others.
The Myanmar military has announced several ceasefires since the 28 March earthquake, with the latest having been extended to 31 May. Some opposition forces have also resumed fighting since announcing their own ceasefires post-earthquake.
