The Ministerial Meeting on Border Security and Law Enforcement Cooperation between the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Ministry of Home Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has held at the Conference Hall of the Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs at 03:45 pm on October 24th, 2017. Prior to this, the Pre-Coordination Bilateral Meeting on Senior Officials Level from the two countries was also held in the Horizon Lake View Hotel at the time of 9 am in the same day.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Lieutenant General Kyaw Swe, Union Minister, Ministry of Home Affairs, Major General Moe Myint Tun, Chief of Staff (Army), Major General Aung Soe, Deputy Minister, U Tin Myint, Permanent Secretary, Pol. Major General Aung Win Oo, Chief of Myanmar Police Force, and Director Generals from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs, Office of the State Counsellor, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Ministry of Planning and Finance. From the Bangladesh side, H.E. Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan, Minister for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Permanent Secretaries, Director General from the Bangladesh Police, Major General Abul Hossain, Director General of the Bangladesh Border Guard Police and the Senior Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, have presented 45 delegations in total.
The meeting was touched upon the different sectors such as strengthening border security and law enforcement cooperation, counter terrorism, establishing of Border Liaison Offices, examination at the entry and exit points, illegal trans-boundary issue, national verification, suppression of narcotic drugs at each level of cooperation. The meeting was also openly discussed on verification process for the repatriation process regarding those who had resided in Myanmar before and now staying in Bangladesh. The meeting has reached an agreement in 10 areas of bilateral cooperation between the two Ministries.
After the completion of Ministerial Meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding on Security Dialogue and Cooperation was signed by Maj. Gen. Aung Soe, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs and Mr. Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs of Bangladesh, and then, Pol. Brig. Gen. Myo Swe Win, Chief of General Staffs, Myanmar Police Force and Brigadier Gen. Abul Hasnat Mohamad Khairul Bashar, Additional Director General of Bangladesh Border Guards was also signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishment of Border Liaison Offices-BLOs between Myanmar and Bangladesh respectively and took a documentary photo thereafter.
