KEY FINDINGS

• Food prices extended a fourth-month downward trend, driven by lower vegetable and essential food prices;

• Vegetable prices fell 5% in December, while meat/fish and essential foods fell 1-2%;

• Blanket prices rose 6% on rising winter demand, but NFIs otherwise saw a fourth month of stable prices;

• Food prices fell in vegetable-rich Kyauktaw, but they rose in Rathedaung which more often imports vegetables;

• The total basket price fell 3% in December, driven by slightly-falling food prices in the last quarter of 2024;

• The total basket price was up 34% year-on-year, owing largely NFI price hikes in the first half of 2024.
