KEY FINDINGS

• Overal prices were stable but trends varied regionally as the central dry zone differed from other states/regions;

• Rice and cooking oil prices fell across regions, but at the same that time tomato and banana pushed prices up;

• Food prices fell 3-5% in Sagaing and Magway as rice prices fell more steeply there than in other regions;

• In Rakhine the total basket price rose 1.7% due to just a few items like soap, toothpaste, chicken and tomato;

• Prices rose steeply in southwest Shan townships pushing prices up 2.6% even as they held stable further east;

• Kayin markets struggled to adapt to fewer Thai goods leading to significant township-level variation in prices;

• Bilin, Ponnagyun and Maungdaw saw the largest hikes driven by vegetables and essential foods;

• The total food basket held steady at 414,000 MMK and the total basket held steady at 673,000 MMK.
