The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 93,117 for a humanitarian program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Shwe Bon Thar Monastic Primary School in Bago Region ”.
H.E. Mr. Takashi Saito, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of the U nion of Myanmar , and U Tin Yu , Chairman of Shwe Bon Thar Monastic Primary School Construction Committee, signed the grant contract of this project on 17 February 2012.
This monastic school charge s low school fees in providing formal education , so it attracted more than four hundred and fifty students . However, due to the shortage of classrooms , an increase in the number of students and insufficiency of educational facilities, s ome students had to learn their lessons in the monastery .
The two-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 4 classrooms, toilets and school furniture, was funded under the GGP/GGA scheme to enable the monastic school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
