First wave of Thai physicians operating in Myanmar

Minister of Public Health Chaiya Sasomsup revealed yesterday that the first wave of Thai medical workers, including doctors and nurses equipped with pharmaceuticals were allowed to enter into Myanmar to join in relief efforts for people afflicted by Cyclone Nargis.

A team of Royally donated physicians was part of the wave. The 30 person team included surgical doctors, emergency medical workers, pediatricians, psychiatrists, cardiologists as well as experts in fields such as epidemiology and insect based diseases.

The physicians were drafted from hospitals throughout the nation and the Red Cross Society and were led by Deputy Director of the National Emergency Services Office.
