Insecurity Insight identified 1624 incidents of violence against or obstruction of health care in Myanmar since the military coup on 01 February 2021 and 15 February 2025. In these incidents, health facilities were damaged or destroyed 370 times and taken over for non-medical purposes on at least 208 occasions. In addition, 137 health workers were killed and 872 arrested. Health providers have been ordered to close, most recently on 14 February when junta authorities reportedly directed nine private clinics and hospitals in Yangon to shut down—temporarily or permanently—citing employment of Civil Disobedience Movement-affiliated staff and use of unapproved medicines. The closures began on 1 March.
