(1.2) Background

(DMH-Issued at 14:15 hrs M.S.T. on 20-9-2024)

Due to the intensity of the typhoon "Ragi" occurred in the South China Sea, heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected in Naypyidaw and 11 other states and regions from September 8 to September 12, lasting for about 5 days.

In DMH Focusing as Below

According to the observations at (13:30) hrs MST today, the land depression over the central part of Laos has moved Westwards and reached Eastern part of Thailand. It was downgraded into a Low Pressure Cell. The Low Pressure Cell and remanent clouds are likely continue to move Westwards and crossing to Kayah, Kayin, Mon States and Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions (Myanmar) and Northern Andaman Sea during next (24) hours. Thereafter, continue to move Westwards and it may re-initiate into a Low Pressure Area over central Bay of Bengal on 23-9-2024.

Due to the low pressure cell and remanent of clouds, rain or thundershowers will be widespread in Naypyitaw, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Taninthayi Regions and Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin, Mon States with likelihood of regionally heavyfalls and scattered to fairly widespread in Lower Sagaing, Mandalay Regions and Southern Shan State and isolated heavy Rain falls and strong wind today noon up to 25-9-2024.

Advisory

People should be awarded the heavy rainfall with strong wind, the natural disasters such as flash flood and landslide in the hilly areas and near small rivers and inland water transport and domestic flight.

Flood conditions of Thantwin River

According to the (07:30) hrs M.S.T observation today, the water level of Thantwin River at Hpaan has exceeded by about 1⁄2 feet above its danger level. it may fall from the present water level by about 2 inches during the next 1 day and may remain above its danger level

Flood conditions of Sittoung River

The water level of Sittoung River at Toungoo has exceeded by more than 31⁄2 feet above its danger level. It may fall from the present water level by about 1⁄2 feet during the next 1 day and may remain above its danger level.

The water level of Sittoung River at Madauk has exceeded by about 5 feet above its danger level. It may continue to rise from the present water level by about 3 inches during the next 1 day and may remain above its danger level. It is especially alert to the people who settle near the river banks and low lying areas in Hpaan Township, Toungo Township and Madauk to stay away from the flood-prone areas.
