WFP Mozambique Flood Situation Update #1

Attachments

  • Mozambique is facing the worst floods in two decades, with central and southern provinces severely affected. Major rivers including the Limpopo, Buzi and Licungo have overflowed, destroying homes, isolating communities and disrupting rescue operations. On 16 January, the Government declared a national Red Alert, and evacuations were ordered in high‑risk areas of Chókwè and Guijá in Gaza Province. The National Disaster Management Institute (INGD) has activated multiple accommodation centres to shelter displaced families. As humanitarian needs continue to rise sharply, WFP is supporting government‑led efforts and mobilizing a response as humanitarian needs rise sharply.
