Highlights:

  • At least 594,681 people across Gaza, Maputo and Sofala provinces have been affected, more than half of them are children (306,000). These numbers are increasing daily.

  • Current official figures for displacement reflect registration numbers only. It’s estimated that 370,000 of the affected population have been internally displaced, over 60,000 in sites, and 310,000 in host communities.

  • As the situation evolves, UNICEF estimates the number of affected people will reach at least 800,000 within the next two weeks. This figure estimates at least 400,000 children will be affected.

  • At least 1,600 houses were damaged or destroyed and 72,456 houses flooded.

  • The government has indicated that search and rescue operations are critical and priority needs include food, shelter, WASH, NFIs, medicines and supplies for health facilities.

  • UNICEF has scaled up assistance in accommodation centres and is working closely with partners and through the clusters to provide lifesaving supplies and services.
