At least 594,681 people across Gaza, Maputo and Sofala provinces have been affected, more than half of them are children (306,000). These numbers are increasing daily.

Current official figures for displacement reflect registration numbers only. It’s estimated that 370,000 of the affected population have been internally displaced, over 60,000 in sites, and 310,000 in host communities.

As the situation evolves, UNICEF estimates the number of affected people will reach at least 800,000 within the next two weeks. This figure estimates at least 400,000 children will be affected.

At least 1,600 houses were damaged or destroyed and 72,456 houses flooded.

The government has indicated that search and rescue operations are critical and priority needs include food, shelter, WASH, NFIs, medicines and supplies for health facilities.

UNICEF has scaled up assistance in accommodation centres and is working closely with partners and through the clusters to provide lifesaving supplies and services.
