Johannesburg, South Africa (PANA) -
The South African government has indicated its readiness to offer
assistance to Mozambique following the havoc the latter suffered from Cyclone
Japhet last week.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ronnie
Mamoepa said Tuesday that South Africa had not yet received any request
for assistance from Maputo, but was on standby, should Mozambique need
help.
The cyclone hit the coastal province of Inhambane, killing 19 people and leaving many others homeless.
President Thabo Mbeki has since sent a message of sympathy to the Mozambican government.
