CONTEXT

Since October 2024, post-election unrest has forced thousands of people from Mozambique to seek refuge in neighbouring countries, including refugees and asylum seekers formerly in Mozambique. In addition, some refugees and asylum seekers remaining in Mozambique have relocated from Nampula city to the safety of the nearby Maratane settlement. The situation in northern Mozambique has been compounded by the humanitarian crisis resulting from Cyclones Chido and Dikeledi as well as the ongoing armed conflict in Cabo Delgado, which has resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands.
