SUMMARY AND MAIN FINDINGS

Metuge Sede, the administrative center of the Metuge district in Cabo Delgado, saw an influx of IDPs in March following several attacks by non-state armed groups (NSAG) in the Quissanga, Macomia, and Chiure districts. This RNA, however, was conducted immediately following the March 6th attack in Pulo village located in the Metuge district, which led to 803 families seeking refuge in Metuge Sede. On March 14th, 2024, the World Food Programmed (WFP) provided food assistance to 625 families.

On March 15th, 2024, the Rapid Response Mechanism team of Action Contre la Faim conducted a Rapid Needs Assessment of IDP families through face to face structured key informant (KI) interviews, several focus group discussions (FGDs), and direct observation. The findings reveal that the majority of the displaced families were currently sheltering in the Manono Complete Primary School (EPC) in Metuge Sede. Some families have occupied the classrooms, but due to insufficient space and overcrowding, most families remain in public spaces (the school yard and under trees within the school grounds). The district government of Metuge is working on allocating spaces for these families.

In the context of the needs assessment, families did not express an intention to return to their area of origin. The families are waiting for the allocation of spaces to build houses and the provision of materials. Besides the need for shelter, families face difficulties with water, sanitation, and household utensils.
