ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (PANA) - The
OAU Friday made an urgent appeal for international assistance to alleviate
the suffering of flood victims in Mozambique.
It made the call after a token donation
of 20,000 US dollars to the country for the same purpose.
The donation was handed over by the OAU assistant secretary general, Said Djinnit, to the Mozambican charge d'affaires in Addis Ababa, Albertina Macdonald.
Djinnit appealed to OAU member states and the international community "to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the flood victims in Mozambique."
Macdonald expressed her government's gratitude, saying the OAU contribution would boost efforts by the government to address the problem.
