SITUATION OVERVIEW

A new weather system forecasted to evolve into a Severe Tropical Cyclone and impact Mozambique. A new lowpressure system (temporarily named 12-20242025) recently formed in the Indian Ocean and it is currently heading east towards Madagascar. It is expected to land on the east coast of Madagascar as a moderate tropical storm in the evening of 07 March. After crossing Madagascar, it should re-emerge in the Mozambique Channel on 08 March and continue westwards, evolving into a tropical cyclone. The system is expected to cross over the northern coast of Mozambique on 9 March. The provinces of Nampula, Zambezia and Cabo Delgado are forecasted to be impacted by heavy rains and strong winds. In the 2024/2025 rainy and cyclonic season, Nampula Province has been hit by Tropical Cyclone Chido (December 2024) and Tropical Cyclone Dikeledi (January 2025). A total of 455,000 people had been affected b the two cyclones. There is a cholera outbreak in Nampula and Zambezia with 915 cases and 29 deaths reported, as of 7 March.
