Heavy rainfall has continued to affect most of Mozambique (particularly the central and northern provinces) since 1 March, causing widespread floods and river overflow that have resulted in an increasing humanitarian impact. The worst affected provinces are currently Sofala, Tete and Nampula.
The National Disasters Management Institute (INGD) reports, as of 31 March, 47 fatalities, eight people still missing, 20 injured people, nearly 26 000 evacuated people in 48 accommodation centres and a total of more than 175 500 affected people across the country. In addition, INGD also reports 5 815 destroyed houses, 32 446 damaged houses and seven damaged bridges.
Over the next 96 hours, more rainfall with locally heavy rainfall is still forecast over central and northern Mozambique.
