MAPUTO (Feb. 9) XINHUA - The Mozambican air force and the country' s Natural Disasters Management Institute (INHC) on Tuesday used helicopters to rescue 60 bus passengers trapped by flood on a section of road in Maputo Province.
According to a communique issued by the INGC on Wednesday, the buses belong to the South African Vaal Maseru Company, and the passengers are Mozambican migrant workers returning from the South African mines. The flood waters had damaged bridges, and left the buses stranded, unable to return to South Africa, or to advance to Maputo.
The helicopters airlifted the 60 passengers past the flooded areas to a petrol station on the Maputo-Matola road where they were picked up by other buses.
