The Government has launched an official appeal for USD 2.7 million for emergency humanitarian assistance
1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation provided details of an estimate of immediate humanitarian assistance for the flood victims at a meeting with the local donor community this morning. The required items are as follows:

National and International Response
2. The National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC) provides a technical briefing twice a day in collaboration with the UN agencies, NGOs and representatives of the city councils of Maputo and Matola.
3. WFP has been providing food to the flood victims from existing stocks. WHO will deploy a team from Harare to help in assessing health needs. UNICEF will provide medical kits/medicaments to respond to malaria and diarrhoea problems.
4. The Government of Norway and the UK Department of International Development have pledged USD 50,000 and USD 30,000 respectively for procurement of emergency relief item and provision of logistical support through OCHA.
5. OCHA has released USD 30,000 from OCHA Emergency Grant.
6. OCHA is prepared to serve, as a channel for cash contributions for the immediate relief needs. Funds channeled through OCHA will be spent in coordination with the relevant organizations of the UN system and OCHA will provide written confirmation of their use. Funds should be transferred to OCHA Account No. CO-590.160.1 SWIFT-code SBC0CHGG12A - at the UBS AG, PO Box 2770, CH-1211 Geneva 2, Switzerland, with reference: OCHA - Mozambique - Floods 2000.
7. For co-ordination purposes, donors are requested to inform OCHA Geneva, as indicated below, of relief missions, pledges or contributions and their corresponding value by item.
