EARLY ACTION PROTOCOL ACTIVATION

Activation Overview

CVM has activated its Early Action Protocol for cyclone.

The current situation in Nampula province district of Ilha de Mozambique, Mossuril and Angoche raises significant concerns due to the imminent risk of a Cyclone making landfall between March 9 22:00 and March 10, 10:00. The Increase of precipitation in this region has created a precarious environment, posing threats to both the local population and livestock.

In response to this imminent cyclone, the Mozambican Red Cross has decided to activate the Cyclone Early Action Protocol. This decision was made on March 7th, 2025, and confirmed on March 8th following the confirmation of the forecast issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) that the trigger had reached 100 km/h.

In the event of cyclone, approximately 100.000 people could be affected in the district of Mossuril and 150.000 people in the district of Angoche. The operation will involve around 100 volunteers.

The relief actions will be concentrated in the communities in Angoche district, identified as the most severely affected by the Cyclone, struggling with limited access to essential services. The intervention is scheduled to span two days, between March 8th to 9th, and is expected to benefit approximately 10 thousand individuals, encompassing children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
