Mozambique: the cost of inaction (October 2023)

Attachments

The humanitarian response in northern Mozambique is severely underfunded. As of October 2023, the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP), which seeks $513 million to target 1.6 million people, is 35 per cent funded, having received $179 million. The humanitarian response is falling short of the needs. In the next three months, humanitarian partners need $79 million to provide multi-sectoral emergency assistance to more than a million people. Without increased support, some 850,000 people will suffer from hunger, 400,000 IDPs and returnees will be without any protection services, and nearly 100,000 will remain deprived of WASH services. Women and girls, who constitute the majority of the displaced population, will face increased risks of gender-based violence.
