Across Mozambique, a total of 4.9 million people are experiencing high acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or above) between October 2024 and March 2025.
The Drought Appeal launched in September 2024, presents the humanitarian needs in districts most affected by the El- Nino induced drought. This includes three million people in drought affected areas.
As of March 2025, significant gaps in humanitarian response persisted in the drought response. Of the 1.4 million people targeted for assistance, a total of 460,000, equivalent to 34 per cent of the targeted population, had been
reached.
Out of a target of 1.1 million people, the Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) cluster reached 389,000 people, the Nutrition cluster reached 141,000 people, the WASH cluster reached 39,000 people and Protection cluster reached 400 people. The unmet target across other life-saving clusters highlights the need for additional resources to close the gap
and ensure a comprehensive, multisectoral response.
The drought appeal continues to face a substantial shortfall as $41.5 million—approximately 19 per cent of the total financial requirement—has been secured against the $222 million required. The financial gap has severely limited the ability of humanitarian actors to deliver timely and adequate aid to those in need.
