Italian aid to Mozambique

Following the letter published in "La Repubblica" on March 12, in which Mrs Hofmann requests support for the centre she runs in Mozambique, I wish to make it known that the Italian Co-operation Task Force that has been set up in Maputo upon instruction of Foreign Minister Dini, has promptly satisfied that request. In agreement with Mrs Hofmann, a primary operation has been launched to meet the most urgent needs of the centre. The Italian co-operation office will provide the centre's school with the supplies it needs to start functioning again. It will purchase such supplies on the local market

In addition, school benches, teaching aids such as exercise books, pens and other stationary supplies needed for lessons will also be bought.

Likewise, another similar request has also been met. It was made by the Bishop of Maputo, Monsignor Adriano Langa, for an initiative in a town near the capital where the diocese assists a community of one hundred or so families who have lost everything.
