Situation Overview
Tropical Cyclone Idai made landfall in central Mozambique the night of 14 March 2019. According to the Government of Mozambique, more than 598 people have died and more than 1,641 have been injured in the aftermath of the storm.
As of 02 April 2019, according to Mozambique’s National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC), 131,136 individuals (32,290 families) have been displaced and taken shelter in evacuation centres in the four provinces of Sofala (107), Zambezia (3), Tete (5) and Manica (21). The majority of these centres are schools and churches.
According to government reports, 85,265 houses have been completely destroyed, 97,276 houses have been partially destroyed and 15,784 have been flooded.
