Baltimore (IOCC) - With more than
one million people displaced by catastrophic flooding in Mozambique, International
Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) launched an appeal to provide urgently
needed assistance to victims of the natural disaster.
"The situation in Mozambique seems
to grow larger and more desperate by the day," observed IOCC Chairman,
Charles Ajalat. "We, as Orthodox Christians, are deeply concerned
for the thousands in need of immediate assistance." "In addition
to the immediate need to reach people stranded by the flooding, there is
an urgent need to ensure safe drinking water and emergency provisions for
those who have been rescued from the flood waters," added Samir Ishak,
IOCC Director of Operations. IOCC is coordinating its relief efforts with
partner agencies operating in the region to provide emergency supplies
of fuel, tents, plastic sheeting, blankets, cooking utensils, water tanks,
water taps, and pipes. Tax-deductible contributions to assist in the "Mozambique
Flood Assistance" may be sent to International Orthodox Christian
Charities, P.O. Box 630225, Baltimore, MD 21263-0225. To make a credit
card contribution, please call the IOCC donation hotline toll-free at (877)
