I.) INTRODUCTION & CONTEXT
Plan International and Helpcode are jointly implementing a two-year ECHO-funded Education in Emergencies (EiE) and Child Protection project in Cabo Delgado.
Within the framework of child protection risk mitigation strategies and the mainstreaming of GBV prevention and response in the district of implementation, four GBV safety audits were conducted after six months of physical implementation of Child Protection Case Management and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities.
The safety audits aim to identify and address risks of GBV specifically related to girls in the communities where the project is physically present. This specific report pertains to the Nangade district in Cabo Delgado, focusing on the communities of Ntamba and Ntoli.
Helpcode is providing support to the consortium by implementing specific case management and MHPSS group and individual activities (level 2 and 3) in the selected communities with children and their families. The Nangade district experienced significant population movements resulting in the establishment of various IDP camps during 2023.
Schools are facing considerable strain, particularly in the Ntoli community, where the school caters to both host community and IDP camp children.
The district is encountering challenges in receiving humanitarian support due to the physical presence of actors who typically operate from Mueda and are not based in the district. The consortium program is currently involved in constructing Temporary Learning Spaces (TLSs) for primary schools to facilitate the enrollment process for children in Nangade.
