Synopsis (short abstract)
Despite sustained economic growth over the past two decades, Mozambique continues to face deepening poverty, food insecurity and vulnerability to shocks. About 70 percent of the population depends on agriculture, yet livelihoods are increasingly undermined by recurrent cyclones, floods and droughts as well as conflict. As a result, hunger levels remain high, with an estimated 3.5 million people facing acute food insecurity. Through its Emergency and Resilience Plan 2026–2028, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) responds to a complex and evolving crisis context through a sequenced and integrated approach. FAO aims to reach 1.37 million people with a USD 79.2 million budget by combining time‑sensitive emergency interventions with food security and nutrition analysis and resilience actions to save lives and livelihoods, strengthen resilience and support sustainable agrifood systems.
