Emergency Flood Relief (Provision of Supplies) to the Republic of Mozambique (report #2)

The following is a report on the arrival of emergency flood supplies in Mozambique. The supplies were approved for shipment on March 10 (Wed).

1. Arrival of Emergency Supplies

The supplies were shipped to Mozambique according to the following schedule:

March 10 (Wed)
9:00 pm - departed London aboard flight VS-601

March 11 (Thu)
10:15 am - arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa
6:40 pm - departed Johannesburg aboard a chartered flight
8:00 pm - arrived in Maputo, Mozambique

2. Presentation of the Emergency Supplies

The emergency supplies were transferred from the Japanese side to the Mozambican side at a presentation ceremony held at 2:30 pm on March 12 (Fri) in a Mozambique Foreign Ministry National Relief Agency warehouse. The ceremony was attended by representatives of both countries: Ambassador Hatakenaka of the Japanese embassy in South Africa (which has jurisdiction over Japanese activities in Mozambique), First Secretary Muto, and Mr. Nakamura from JICA's South Africa Office from the Japanese side; and Director Langa of the Mozambique Foreign Ministry National Relief Agency and a number of officials from the Mozambican side. Ambassador Hatakenaka presented Director Langa with an inventory of the supplies, which was followed by a statement by both men.

3. Expression of Gratitude from the Mozambican Government

At the ceremony, Director Langa stated, "On behalf of the people of Mozambique, I would like to thank both the Japanese government and the Japanese people for their quick response in providing us with these emergency supplies."
