On 31 March 2025, attacks and heightened fear of violence by Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs) in Nacuale village, Ancuabe district, triggered the displacement of approximately 14,929 individuals (3,353 households) as of 16 April 2025. Among the displaced population, 4,669 are women, 7,565 are children, and 2,695 are men. Displaced households have sought refuge across both displacement sites and host communities in Ancuabe, Macomia, Quissanga and Montepuez districts. Of the total displaced population, 4,693 individuals (990 households) have relocated to the Natove, Marokani, Milamba 2, Nanjua A and B, and Ngeue relocation sites within Ancuabe district and 48 individuals (10 households) have sought refuge at the Nacaca center in Montepuez district. The remaining 10,188 individuals (2,353 households) have taken shelter in host communities, including Nanjua A and B, Mahera, Naputa and Bairro 25 de Junho (Ancuabe), Napulubo and Machova (Macomia),Ibo and Tororo (Quissanga).
Key informants report that food, shelter, and non-food items (NFIs) remain the most urgent humanitarian needs.
